Huasun's HJT Webinar Highlights Vertical PV and Agrivoltaics as the Next Mainstream Trend in Europe

2025/06/30

Huasun Energy, in collaboration with pv magazine, hosted a dedicated webinar on June 25, 2025, titled "Mainstreaming Vertical PV and Agrivoltaics." The session featured insights from Christian Comes, Director of European Business Development at Huasun; Simone Anania, President of Italy's Lux s.r.l.; Andres Yemail, Sales Engineer of Germany's Next2Sun; and pv magazine's Director Mark Hutchins. Together, they explored how vertical PVpowered by Huasun's heterojunction solar technologyis helping unlock the full potential of agrivoltaic systems across Italy and Europe.

As a key partner of Huasun, Lux s.r.l. has over a decade of deep engagement in the European solar market. During the webinar, Simone Anania offered a comprehensive analysis of the growing potential of agrivoltaics in Europe and interpreted relevant policy trends. Using Italy as an example, he noted that challenging terrains such as mountainous or coastal regions pose significant obstacles for large-scale ground-mounted solar farms.

Anania explained that to protect valuable agricultural and pastoral land, many European countries are actively introducing policies to support agrivoltaic development. These include market-based electricity purchase schemes and a range of tiered subsidy mechanismsdemonstrating the strong momentum behind agrivoltaics as a sustainable and scalable solution.

Amid mounting land-use pressures, optimizing PV deployment while minimizing farmland occupation is critical. Vertical PV systems offer a compelling answer. With their distinctive "dual-peak" generation profile that aligns well with Europe's electricity price peaks, vertical systems enhance solar revenue while easing energy storage requirements. Their minimal land footprint allows for better land-use efficiency with less disruption to farming. This "dual-use" model is rapidly gaining traction in Europe and beyond as a preferred approach to agrivoltaics.

Christian Comes emphasized that Huasun's heterojunction (HJT) technologywith its ultra-high bifacialityis uniquely suited to agrivoltaic applications. Huasun's Kunlun series, designed specifically for vertical photovoltaic installations, achieves near-100% bifaciality, significantly boosting energy yield from both sides of the panel. These modules incorporate advanced technologies such as anti-reflective coated glass and light conversion films, along with optimized frame and junction box designs that support both portrait and landscape mounting. These features improve installation flexibility and land-use efficiency, accelerating the mainstream adoption of vertical PV in agrivoltaic systems.

The panelists engaged in an in-depth discussion on the development of agrivoltaics and vertical PV in Europe, unanimously agreeing that technological innovation and supportive policies are essential to unlocking the market. There was a shared call for leading players like Huasun and Next2Sun to continue driving the advancement of vertical PV and agrivoltaic solutionscontributing to both the continent's energy transition and the sustainable future of agriculture.
